The form is determined by the project. The story comes first.

Narrative Immersion is an Australian creative studio founded in Melbourne in 2016.

We develop narrative projects across health, education, games, screen and emerging digital forms, often working collaboratively with researchers, artists, clinicians, educators, technologists and other specialists.

Narrative Immersion has genuine prior experience across narrative-driven educational games, screen production, research translation and digital projects.

Dr Luke C. Jackson

Founder & Creative Director

Luke C. Jackson is a writer, researcher and educator whose work spans comics, screen, games and digital narrative.

His doctoral research examined the role of professional writers in narrative-driven educational games and the relationship between narrative, immersion and learning. His subsequent research has explored comics, adaptation, literary space and graphic medicine.

Luke’s wider creative practice includes novels, film and graphic narrative. He co-created Two Week Wait: An IVF Story, a graphic novel drawing on lived experience and interviews with people who had undergone IVF. The book was shortlisted for the inaugural Graphic Medicine Award.

That experience — moving between creative practice, research and education — informs Narrative Immersion’s approach to developing stories for purposes that extend beyond entertainment alone.

Collaboration

The best projects rarely belong to one discipline.

Narrative Immersion works collaboratively.

Depending on the project, that might mean bringing together writers and artists, researchers and designers, clinicians and people with lived experience, educators and developers.

We do not begin by deciding what something should become. We begin with the problem, the audience and the experience we want to create. Then we find the right form.
